About the music that is playing:

Excerpted from the CD, "Yield to the Present"; composed and performed, entirely with Freenotes instruments, by Brian Hand and can be purchased from his web site.

Brian Hand is a longtime performer, teacher, multi-instrumentalist and composer of a wide variety of percussion based music. His wife, a hospice chaplain, suggested he play music at the bedside of hospice patients, a sort of music ministry. The music on this CD is the type played at nursing homes, assisted living centers, hospices and private homes. It's improvisational and has healing qualities intended to bring a peaceful, compassionate and supportive focus to the present moment.

Morpheus - an exciting new concept in music therapy instruments.

Named for the ancient Greek god of dreams, the Morpheus is designed to provide the ultimate in flexibility. Each tone is its own unit, meaning that individual notes can be removed from the large scale pattern and rearranged into smaller subgroups. Chords, modes and pentatonic scales can be extracted from the diatonic or chromatic instrument frames. Click for more detail.

“... the design of the Wing is brilliantly useful, as children will almost always be able to respond with the motion needed for pounding with mallets, the bars are a good size for facilitating hand-eye coordination, & of course, the tuning makes it possible to have melody (or harmony) without the technical requirements other instruments would impose ...”

“Simple songs & vocalizations work beautifully above the Wing’s musical base, & the aesthetics range from playful to sublime – I couldn’t ask for anything better ...”

“... I am using the Wing with residents, especially those who are confused or have Alzheimer's disease. They play with great success, & it gives them a lot of joy ...”

“... the beauty of its music can bring light & softness into the darkness of sorrow & pain ...”

“.... the Spinner helps to enhance the quality of life for those that we serve in our program ...”

“... her mom was thrilled & delighted to hear her daughter's original & spontaneous creations ...”

“... the Spinner has been an invaluable addition to our palliative care program ...”

“... the Spinner has provided hours & hours of accessible, beautiful music to people of many different ages & cultural backgrounds who are patients & family members staying on our hospital palliative care unit, our nursing staff, members of the cancer relaxation support group, & to children in our bereavement program ...”

“... Family members have used the Spinner to play at the bedside of their loved ones: creating soothing sounds which helped to mask the sound of laboured breathing, & which made sitting & waiting at the bedside a little easier for everyone in the room ...”
